The date of production puts his car right in the range of cars that Nissan suspected might be affected, but 18 years and miles later, it's probably not a concern anymore. TT's affected were built prior to December 11, 1989 (engine manufacturing, not car manufacturing). The problem developed by 50,000 miles (normally around 35,000 miles), so if his car has over 50k miles (which is likely), he doesn't have to worry about soft vales... he either didn't have them or it was fixed under warranty. If he has less than 35k miles, I'd look into it further. Soft Valves I seriously wish people would stop worrying about having soft valves anymore... in my time on tt.net, the only time I've ever heard of a car actually popping up with soft valves was in a post that Ash made. The problems in almost all of these very few cars (only about 350) were fixed long ago.
